The attested use most often concerns plural seats among the tables overturned in the sacred place; one verse uses the singular in the statement that the scribes and Pharisees have sat on Moses' seat.

1. Seats among overturned furnishings · dominant

   In Mark 11:15 and Matthew 21:12, the accusative plural form occurs with the tables that are overturned as sellers and buyers are driven from the sacred place. In Mark 11:15 the APB renders the clause “he overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who were selling the doves.”

2. The seat of Moses · occasional

   In Matthew 23:2, the genitive singular form occurs in the statement that the scribes and Pharisees “have sat down on the seat of Moses.” The APB presents a particular seat associated with Moses rather than the plural furnishings in the sacred-place scenes.
