The attested uses present a course or pattern that people follow: Christ's example in 1 Peter 2:21, the faith of Abraham in Romans 4:12, and shared conduct in 2 Corinthians 12:18.

   All three occurrences use the dative plural form ἴχνεσιν in clauses about following or walking in a pattern. In 1 Peter 2:21 the APB renders Christ's suffering and example as leaving something to follow; in Romans 4:12 it renders following the faith Abraham had; and in 2 Corinthians 12:18 it contrasts walking in the same spirit with walking in the same pattern.

In the Anselm Project Bible: The APB uses “tracks” in 1 Peter 2:21 and 2 Corinthians 12:18, but “footsteps” in Romans 4:12. These renderings show the verses' presentation rather than fixed English equivalents.
