The two occurrences show observation directed toward visible conduct: good works in 1 Peter 2:12 and pure behavior in 1 Peter 3:2.

   In 1 Peter 2:12, the present active masculine plural participle occurs where observers see honorable conduct and good works; the APB renders the clause "they may observe your good works." In 1 Peter 3:2, the aorist active masculine plural participle refers to having seen pure behavior; the APB renders "having observed your pure behavior in fear."

In the Anselm Project Bible: The APB uses "observe" for good works in 1 Peter 2:12 and "having observed" for pure behavior in 1 Peter 3:2. These renderings fit the clauses.
