dikaios describes conduct fitting what is right and judgment or consequences that fit a person's deeds.

The occurrences chiefly describe conduct directed by what is fitting: waking without sin, behaving blamelessly toward believers, and living uprightly. They also describe judgment or consequences as matching a person's deeds, whether in the judge's action or in punishment received.

Senses in use

  1. Conduct fitting what is right · dominant

The adverb qualifies conduct and exhortation in 1 Corinthians 15:34, where the APB renders the command "Wake up rightly and do not sin." In 1 Thessalonians 2:10 it occurs in the description of behavior toward believers, and Titus 2:12 places it within the call to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives.

  2. Judgment or consequence matching deeds · common

In Luke 23:41 the adverb occurs with receiving what deeds deserve; the APB renders the clause "we indeed justly." In 1 Peter 2:23 it occurs with the one "who judges justly," presenting judgment as the relevant action.

In the Anselm Project Bible: The APB uses "rightly," "upright," and "justly" across these verses, while also expressing the conduct sense through surrounding descriptions such as "blamelessly." These are verse-level renderings rather than fixed equivalents for the term.
