In Matthew 4:24, the dative plural form occurs in the report that people suffering from various illnesses and torments were brought to Jesus, who healed them. The clause presents the term among conditions affecting those brought for healing.

Suffering in Hades · dominant
In Luke 16:23, the dative plural form occurs as the man lifts his eyes in Hades while already suffering; in Luke 16:28, the genitive singular form modifies “place” in the warning about coming there. The APB renders both clauses with “torment,”.
