The attested use concerns the reading of recognized writings: public reading alongside exhortation and teaching, the reading of the law and prophets, and the reading of the old covenant.

1. Reading of recognized writings · dominant

   In 1 Timothy 4:13, the dative singular form occurs in an instruction to devote oneself to public reading alongside exhortation and teaching. In Acts 13:15, the accusative singular form follows the law and the prophets; the APB renders the clause “After the reading of the law and the prophets.” In 2 Corinthians 3:14, the dative singular form occurs when the old covenant is read, in the APB’s rendering.

In the Anselm Project Bible: The APB explicitly uses “public reading” in 1 Timothy 4:13 and “the reading of the law and the prophets” in Acts 13:15; in 2 Corinthians 3:14 it renders the clause “when the old covenant is read.” These are verse-level renderings rather than definitions.
