The attested use concerns determining a specific time precisely: Herod obtains the time of the star’s appearance from the sages, and his later action is described in relation to that determined time.

   In Matthew 2:7, the aorist active indicative form occurs in Herod’s inquiry about when the star appeared; the APB renders the clause “inquired from them the exact time.” In Matthew 2:16, the same form refers back to the time obtained from the sages, as the APB renders “according to the time he had carefully ascertained from the sages.”

In the Anselm Project Bible: The APB presents the action as Herod’s inquiry for “the exact time” in Matthew 2:7 and as time “carefully ascertained” in Matthew 2:16. These are clause-level renderings rather than definitions.
