Suffering and Glory

The Bible speaks of suffering and glory together by describing affliction, participation in Christ’s sufferings, and glory named alongside them. The word or idea recurs in at least 12 verses across 7 books and 10 episodes. One passage calls momentary affliction the producer of an eternal weight of glory (2 Corinthians 4:17). Another expresses a desire to share Christ’s sufferings (Philippians 3:10). Hebrews says that Jesus suffered death and was crowned with glory and honor (Hebrews 2:9). Other verses speak of suffering for God’s kingdom and of salvation with eternal glory (2 Thessalonians 1:5; 2 Timothy 2:10).
