The Bible speaks of fear of God through David’s fear of the LORD, a statement about a ruler, and direct exhortations. David was afraid of the LORD and asked how the ark of the LORD could come to him 2 Samuel 6:9. A spoken saying describes “a ruler in the fear of God” 2 Samuel 23:3. One passage commands, “fear God” 1 Peter 2:17. Another tells those who call the impartial judge “Father” to live in fear throughout their sojourn 1 Peter 1:17.
