A biblical region named with Tarsus, Syria, and travel routes in Acts and Galatians.
In the Bible, Cilicia is a southeastern region of Asia Minor that includes Tarsus. The name occurs in at least 8 verses across Acts and Galatians. Paul identifies himself as a Jew of Tarsus in Cilicia and says he was born there (Acts 21:39; Acts 22:3). A letter addresses brothers living in Antioch, Syria, and Cilicia, while another passage says he traveled through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the assemblies (Acts 15:23; Acts 15:41). Cilicia is also named in a sea voyage off Cilicia and Pamphylia (Acts 27:5).
