Tabitha (Dorcas)

Tabitha, also called Dorcas, is a disciple in Joppa whom Acts describes as full of good works and charitable acts (Acts 9:36). When Peter arrived, widows stood weeping and showed him tunics and garments that Dorcas had made (Acts 9:39). Peter then sent the others out, knelt and prayed, and said, “Tabitha, arise”; she opened her eyes, saw Peter, and sat up (Acts 9:40). The account names her in Acts under both forms, Tabitha and Dorcas.
