Jehoiachin, also called Jechoniah, was a king of Judah taken captive and deported to Babylon.
Jehoiachin was a king of Judah who succeeded his father Jehoiakim 2 Kings 24:6. Also written Jechoniah, he is named in at least 12 verses across 5 books. The account says that the king of Babylon took him captive, and that he was deported to Babylon with members of the royal household and leading men 2 Kings 24:12 2 Kings 24:15. Later passages refer to his captivity and say Evil-merodach brought him out of prison 2 Kings 25:27. Matthew names Jechoniah as father of Shealtiel Matthew 1:12.
