Jehoiachin, also called Jechoniah, was king of Judah after Jehoiakim and was taken captive to Babylon.
Jehoiachin is the king of Judah who succeeded his father Jehoiakim, also written Jechoniah in Matthew’s genealogy (2 Kings 24:6; Matthew 1:11). The account says that the king of Babylon took him captive and deported him from Jerusalem to Babylon with members of his household and leading men of the land (2 Kings 24:12; 2 Kings 24:15). Later, Evil-merodach brought Jehoiachin out of prison (2 Kings 25:27). Matthew names Jechoniah as the father of Shealtiel (Matthew 1:12).
