Achan is named in Joshua and 1 Chronicles in connection with the devoted thing and Israel's resulting judgment.
Achan is a biblical person identified as Achan son of Carmi, son of Zabdi, son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah. In Joshua, he took some of the devoted thing, and the passage says the LORD’s anger burned against the sons of Israel Joshua 7:1. Achan was selected from his household and told Joshua that he had sinned against the LORD God of Israel Joshua 7:18 Joshua 7:20. Joshua later took Achan, listed possessions and members of his household, and everything belonging to him to the Valley of Achor Joshua 7:24. Another passage calls him “the troubler of Israel” 1 Chronicles 2:7.
