The two attestations show the verb in contexts of engaging others for hire: Ephraim's action toward “lovers” and an action “among the nations.”

   In Hosea 8:9, the Hiphil perfect form occurs in the clause concerning Ephraim and “lovers”; the APB renders the clause “Ephraim has hired lovers.” In Hosea 8:10, the Qal imperfect form occurs with activity “among the nations”; the APB renders “they hire themselves out among the nations.”

In the Anselm Project Bible: The APB uses “has hired lovers” in Hosea 8:9 and “hire themselves out among the nations” in Hosea 8:10. Because it is a whole-verse translation, these phrases confirm the clauses' overall presentation without fixing a finer distinction.
