   In Numbers 25:18, the proper-noun form occurs twice in clauses about deceitful schemes, “the matter of Peor,” and a plague concerning Peor. Numbers 31:16 likewise places it in “the matter of Peor” that led to unfaithfulness and a plague, while Joshua 22:17 recalls “the sin of Peor” and the plague upon the congregation.
