The term denotes specially prepared food: in Genesis it is made, brought, and eaten in connection with a father’s requested meal, while in Proverbs it is food that a person is told not to desire.

   The plural absolute form names food to be prepared and brought for a father to eat in Genesis 27:4, Genesis 27:9, Genesis 27:14, and Genesis 27:31; in Genesis 27:7 the APB renders the clause “prepare delicacies for me.” In Proverbs 23:3, the construct form occurs in the warning not to desire “his delicacies,” placing the same kind of food among objects of desire.

In the Anselm Project Bible: Across the Genesis verses, the APB presents the term with “savory food” and once “delicacies”; in Proverbs 23:3 and Proverbs 23:6 it uses “delicacies.” These are renderings of the verse clauses rather than definitions.
