   The term occurs in clauses characterizing a more excellent way, the greatness of revelations, glory beyond comparison, and power attributed to God rather than to human agents. In 1 Corinthians 12:31 the APB renders the surrounding clause "a still more excellent way," while in 2 Corinthians 4:7 it renders "the surpassing greatness of the power may be of God and not from us."

   In these clauses the term marks an intensified negative condition or action: an affliction beyond strength, persecution of the assembly, and sin becoming sinful through the commandment.
