Stege denotes the covering over a house, whether entered beneath or opened from above.

The attested use concerns the overhead covering of a house: in two verses it marks the boundary beneath which someone would enter, and in one it is the structure opened above to lower a bed.

   All three occurrences use the accusative singular feminine form in house-related clauses. In Luke 7:6 and Matthew 8:8, the centurion says that he is not worthy for the Lord to enter under it; in Mark 2:4, the APB renders the action as opening the covering above the paralytic so that his bed could be let down.

In the Anselm Project Bible: The APB uses "roof" in Luke 7:6 and Matthew 8:8, while Mark 2:4 says they "unroofed the roof." These renderings show the verse-level setting rather than a precise English equivalent for each token.
