Skoteinos describes what is dark in images of the body, its parts, and the light within.

The attested use describes darkness in the condition of the body or a part of it: Luke 11:34 and Matthew 6:23 contrast a dark body with light, while Luke 11:36 speaks of having no dark part.

1. Darkness within the body imagery · dominant

   In Luke 11:34 and Matthew 6:23, the nominative neuter form occurs in clauses where an evil eye is followed by the body being dark; the APB renders the outcome as “your body is dark” and “your whole body will be dark.” In Luke 11:36, the accusative neuter form describes the absence of a dark part as the whole body is bright.

In the Anselm Project Bible: The APB presents the term with “dark” for the body in Luke 11:34 and with “dark part” in Luke 11:36; Matthew 6:23 also uses “dark” before speaking of “darkness.” These are translation renderings of the verse context rather than definitions.
