Bodily limbs in a breaking sequence · dominant
The accusative plural form occurs in the request that the bodies be removed after their limbs are broken in John 19:31. In John 19:32 the APB renders that soldiers “broke the legs” of two crucified men, while in John 19:33 it says they did not break Jesus' legs after finding him already dead.
In the Anselm Project Bible: Across John 19:31, John 19:32, and John 19:33, the APB presents the form with “legs” in clauses about breaking them. The verse is read as a whole, but the repeated clause context consistently identifies the bodily limbs in view.
