The attested forms identify a plural group: in Luke 11:30 they receive Jonah as a sign, while in Luke 11:32 and Matthew 12:41 they are said to rise in judgment because they repented at Jonah’s preaching.

   The dative plural form in Luke 11:30 occurs in the comparison that Jonah became a sign to this group; the APB renders the clause “Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites.” The nominative plural forms in Luke 11:32 and Matthew 12:41 name the group that will arise in judgment and condemn the generation because they repented at Jonah’s preaching; the APB renders “The men of Nineveh will arise in the judgment.”
