The two occurrences present kosmios as an appropriate, well-ordered quality: it qualifies women’s attire in 1 Timothy 2:9 and stands among the required qualities of an overseer in 1 Timothy 3:2.

   In 1 Timothy 2:9, the dative feminine form qualifies attire in an instruction that women adorn themselves with modesty and self-control rather than costly display. In 1 Timothy 3:2, the accusative masculine form occurs in a list of qualities required of an overseer; the APB renders both clauses with “respectable.”
