The two verses show punishment as an action contemplated against people after threats and as a condition in which the unrighteous are kept until the day of judgment.

   In Acts 4:21, the aorist middle subjunctive occurs as the speakers seek a way to act against those they threatened; the APB renders the clause "finding no way to punish them." In 2 Peter 2:9, the present passive participle describes the unrighteous as being kept under punishment until the day of judgment in the APB rendering.

In the Anselm Project Bible: The APB uses "punish" in Acts 4:21 and "under punishment" in 2 Peter 2:9. These render the clauses rather than establishing separate meanings.
