kanon denotes a defined boundary for ministry and a standard by which people walk.

The term most often marks the measured boundary or assigned area within which ministry and boasting are framed in 2 Corinthians; in Galatians it marks the standard by which people are said to walk.

1. A defined measure or ministry boundary · dominant

   In 2 Corinthians 10:13, the genitive singular form occurs with boasting according to a measure of ministry assigned by God; the APB renders the clause "according to the measure of the area of ministry that God assigned to us." The accusative singular in 2 Corinthians 10:15 and dative singular in 2 Corinthians 10:16 occur in statements rejecting boasting beyond limits or in another's area of ministry.

2. A standard for one's walk · rare

   In Galatians 6:16, the dative singular form occurs with those who will walk by it; the APB renders the clause "as many as will walk by this rule," followed by peace and mercy.

In the Anselm Project Bible: The APB presents the term through "the measure of the area of ministry," "limits," and "another's area of ministry" in 2 Corinthians, while Galatians 6:16 says "walk by this rule." These are verse-level renderings rather than definitions.
