The attested use identifies a group of mounted men within an escort: they are prepared for the journey toward Caesarea in Acts 23:23 and then continue onward with the prisoner in Acts 23:32.

   In Acts 23:23, the accusative plural form names a contingent prepared alongside soldiers and slingers for travel toward Caesarea; the APB renders the clause “together with seventy horsemen.” In Acts 23:32, the same accusative plural form identifies those permitted to continue with him while others return; the APB renders “they allowed the horsemen to go on with him.”
