The occurrences consistently describe people identified as devout: Jews dwelling in Jerusalem, those who buried Stephen, Simeon as he awaited Israel's consolation, and Ananias in relation to the law.

   The nominative masculine forms describe groups in Acts 2:5 and Acts 8:2 and individual men in Luke 2:25 and Acts 22:12. In Acts 8:2 the APB renders the group as those who entombed Stephen and mourned him; in Luke 2:25 it renders Simeon as waiting for the consolation of Israel, while Acts 22:12 places Ananias in relation to the law.
