Hetairos is a direct address to a person in exchanges involving an agreement, an unprepared guest, or an arrest.

In all three attested verses, hetairos is a singular masculine vocative used to address an individual directly, including a worker questioned about an agreement, a guest challenged over wedding clothing, and a person asked why he has come before Jesus is arrested.

1. Direct address to an individual · dominant

   The form Ἑταῖρε is singular masculine vocative in each occurrence. In Matthew 20:13 the speaker addresses a worker while referring to the agreement for a denarius; in Matthew 22:12 he addresses a man who entered without wedding clothing; and in Matthew 26:50 Jesus addresses the person whose arrival is followed by the arrest.
