architriklinos is the person addressed to taste the wine and call the bridegroom at the wedding.

   In John 2:8, the dative singular form marks the person to whom the servants are told to take what they have drawn; the APB renders the instruction, “take it to the head waiter.” In John 2:9, the nominative singular form identifies the person who tastes the water that had become wine and then calls the bridegroom; the APB again calls him “the head waiter.”

In the Anselm Project Bible: Across John 2:8 and John 2:9, the APB presents the term as “the head waiter.” The verse is read as a whole, but both clauses place this person in the wedding scene as recipient and taster of the drawn drink.
