Anatrepo denotes disrupting or overturning people’s faith or whole households through the conduct described in its verses.

The two occurrences show disruptive overturning: in one verse it affects the faith of some, and in the other it affects whole households through improper teaching.

1. Disrupting faith or households · dominant

   The same present active indicative plural form describes people whose claim about the resurrection affects “the faith of some” in 2 Timothy 2:18 and people who affect “whole households” by teaching what they should not in Titus 1:11. In 2 Timothy 2:18 the APB renders the clause “they overturn the faith of some”; in Titus 1:11 it renders “they are upsetting whole households.”

In the Anselm Project Bible: The APB presents the action as “overturn” in relation to faith in 2 Timothy 2:18 and as “upsetting” in relation to households in Titus 1:11. These are clause-level renderings rather than definitions.
