God Is God of the Living

Christology Themes

“He is not the God of the dead but of the living” appears in Matthew 22:32 and Mark 12:27.

The Bible says that God “is not the God of the dead but of the living” (Matthew 22:32; Mark 12:27). Matthew names God as the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and also says that in the resurrection people neither marry nor are given in marriage (Matthew 22:30; Matthew 22:32). Mark connects the naming of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob with the question of the dead being raised (Mark 12:26). Genesis records the LORD identifying himself to Isaac as “the God of Abraham your father” (Genesis 26:24).
