Jesus Predicts His Death and Resurrection
Biblical Theology
Themes
Jesus speaks of suffering, rejection, death, and being raised in the cited Gospel passages.
The Bible says that Jesus speaks of the Son of Man’s coming suffering, rejection, death, and resurrection. In Mark 8:31 and Luke 9:22, he says that the Son of Man must suffer, be rejected by religious leaders, be killed, and rise or be raised after three days. While gathered in Galilee, he also says that the Son of Man is about to be delivered into human hands (Matthew 17:22). In John 12:34, the crowd questions his statement that the Son of Man must be lifted up; John 18:32 refers to Jesus’ earlier words about the kind of death he was going to die.
