In 1 Samuel, the LORD’s anointed is named in statements refusing violence against that person.
In 1 Samuel, “the LORD’s anointed” is language used when a speaker refuses to stretch out his hand against the person so named. In 1 Samuel 24:6, the speaker tells his men that the LORD forbids such an act. 1 Samuel 26:11 again rejects raising a hand against the LORD’s anointed, while directing that a spear and water jar be taken. In 1 Samuel 26:23, the speaker says he was unwilling to act against the LORD’s anointed and speaks of the LORD repaying each person according to righteousness and faithfulness. The word or idea recurs in at least three verses of 1 Samuel across two episodes.
