The Bible says that “the assembly of the living God” is called the household of God and “a pillar and foundation of the truth” (1 Timothy 3:15). In a separate passage, the Son is revealed “in me” so that he might be proclaimed among the Gentiles (Galatians 1:16).

The word or idea recurs in at least 22 verses across 11 books and 20 episodes. The passages address assemblies in Galatia and Thessalonica (Galatians 1:2; 1 Thessalonians 1:1), and one refers to an assembly in a house (Philemon 1:2). Ephesians speaks of saints being equipped for ministry and of the building up of the body of Christ (Ephesians 4:12). Another passage asks for prayer that God may open a door for speaking the mystery of Christ (Colossians 4:3). A Thessalonian passage says that the word of the Lord sounded forth from them and that their faith toward God had gone out (1 Thessalonians 1:8).
