Zedekiah

Zedekiah in the Bible is the king of Judah whom the king of Babylon appointed in Jehoiachin’s place, changing his name from Mattaniah 2 Kings 24:17. He is identified as a son of Josiah, and Hamutal is named as his mother Jeremiah 37:1 2 Kings 24:18. He rebelled against the king of Babylon 2 Kings 24:20. Jeremiah records that Zedekiah sent Jehucal and Zephaniah to request prayer, later questioned Jeremiah privately, and ordered bread for Jeremiah in the court of the guard Jeremiah 37:3 Jeremiah 37:17 Jeremiah 37:21. Another passage describes his sons’ slaughter before him, his blinding, binding, and removal to Babylon 2 Kings 25:7.
