Ezra 5:6 identifies Tattenai as governor of Beyond the River and names him among those who sent a letter to Darius the king.
Tattenai is the governor of Beyond the River first named in Ezra 5:3; he and his companions ask who issued the decree to build and complete the structure. In Ezra 5:6, he is identified with Shethar-Bozenai and their companions as the sender of a letter to Darius the king. Ezra 6:6 addresses Tattenai and those companions, telling them to keep far from there. Later, the passage says Tattenai, Shethar-Bozenai, and their colleagues acted according to what Darius had sent (Ezra 6:13). Tattenai is named in at least 4 verses in Ezra.
