Stephen

Stephen is an Acts witness and martyr, first named among those chosen by the multitude in Acts 6:5. The passage describes him as full of faith and the holy spirit, chosen alongside Philip the Evangelist. Stephen is also described as full of grace and power and as performing great wonders and signs among the people (Acts 6:8). Some synagogue members debated with him (Acts 6:9).

As Stephen was being stoned, he called on the Lord, saying, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit” (Acts 7:59). Devout men entombed him and mourned him greatly (Acts 8:2). Stephen is named in at least 7 verses in Acts.
