A Jeremiah person whose name occurs in three verses alongside Ishmael.
Nethaniah in the Bible is the Jeremiah person named in the expression “Ishmael son of Nethaniah.” His name occurs in at least three verses, all in Jeremiah. In Jeremiah 40:8, Ishmael son of Nethaniah is among those who came to Gedaliah at Mizpeh. In Jeremiah 40:14, people tell Gedaliah that Baalis has sent Ishmael son of Nethaniah to strike him down, though Gedaliah does not believe them. Johanan later speaks privately to Gedaliah about striking Ishmael son of Nethaniah in Jeremiah 40:15.
