Mishael (Meshach)
Mishael, also called Meshach, is named with Daniel, Hananiah, and Azariah in the book of Daniel.
Mishael (Meshach) is a son of Judah named alongside Daniel, Hananiah, and Azariah; the ruler of the eunuchs calls him Meshach Daniel 1:6 Daniel 1:7. He is named in at least 19 verses, all in Daniel, under the forms Mishael and Meshach.
Daniel made a matter known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, whom the passage calls his companions Daniel 2:17. At Daniel’s request, the king appointed Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego over the administration of the province of Babylon Daniel 2:49.
In the account of the golden image, Meshach is named with Shadrach and Abednego in accusations that they did not serve the king’s gods or worship the image Daniel 3:12. The king commanded the three to be bound and cast into the burning fiery furnace Daniel 3:20, where they fell bound Daniel 3:23. Nebuchadnezzar then called them out, and they came out from the fire Daniel 3:26. He spoke of their God sending an angel and delivering them, and the king afterward caused the three to prosper in the province of Babylon Daniel 3:28 Daniel 3:30.
