Joash the Abiezrite is identified in Judges as Gideon’s father.
Joash in the Bible is the Abiezrite named as Gideon’s father in Judges. Judges 6:11 places an oak belonging to Joash in Ophrah while Gideon, his son, beats wheat in a wine press. The men of the city tell Joash to bring out his son to die, saying that Gideon tore down Baal’s altar and cut the Asherah upon it (Judges 6:30). Joash asks those standing against him whether they will contend for Baal, adding that if Baal is God, he can contend for himself (Judges 6:31). Gideon is later buried in Joash’s tomb at Ophrah (Judges 8:32). Joash is named in at least 8 verses in Judges.
