Jesus Barabbas

Jesus Barabbas is the notable prisoner in Matthew’s account whom Pilate presents alongside Jesus called Christ for the crowd’s choice of release (Matthew 27:16, Matthew 27:17). The high priests and elders persuade the crowds to ask for Barabbas, and the crowd answers, “Barabbas,” when the ruler asks which of the two should be released (Matthew 27:20, Matthew 27:21). Pilate then releases Barabbas, while Jesus is delivered to be crucified (Matthew 27:26).
