Ittai the Gittite accompanies David and is later placed over a third of David’s people.
Ittai in the Bible is Ittai the Gittite, whom David addresses while Ittai walks with him in exile in 2 Samuel 15:19. Ittai answers that wherever his lord the king is, “whether to death or to life,” his servant will be there 2 Samuel 15:21. David then tells him to pass on, and Ittai goes with all his men and the children with him 2 Samuel 15:22. Later, David assigns a third of the people under Ittai’s hand 2 Samuel 18:2 and includes him in a command concerning Absalom 2 Samuel 18:5. Ittai is named in at least 6 verses in 2 Samuel.
