Hannah

Hannah is a woman in 1 Samuel, identified as Elkanah's wife and Samuel's mother (1 Samuel 1:2; 1 Samuel 1:20). Named in at least 11 verses in 1 Samuel, she is first introduced as having no children while Peninnah had children (1 Samuel 1:2). A passage says that the LORD had closed her womb (1 Samuel 1:5). Hannah says that she has poured out her soul before the LORD (1 Samuel 1:15). She calls her son Samuel because, as the passage reads, she had asked him of the LORD (1 Samuel 1:20). Her prayer says, “My heart rejoices in the LORD” (1 Samuel 2:1).
