Hannah

Hannah in the Bible is the 1 Samuel woman identified as Elkanah’s wife and Samuel’s mother (1 Samuel 1:2; 1 Samuel 1:20). She had no children when first named, though Elkanah gave her a portion because he loved her (1 Samuel 1:2; 1 Samuel 1:5). One passage says she spoke in her heart while her lips moved, and Eli thought she was drunk (1 Samuel 1:13). Hannah says she had poured out her soul before the LORD (1 Samuel 1:15). She later conceived and bore Samuel, and her prayer says, “My heart rejoices in the LORD” (1 Samuel 1:20; 1 Samuel 2:1). Hannah is named in at least 11 verses in 1 Samuel.
