Doeg the Edomite was a servant of Saul who reported David's visit to Ahimelech and killed priests at the king's command.
Doeg in the Bible is an Edomite serving Saul, described as a mighty shepherd among Saul’s servants. He is first named while detained before the LORD 1 Samuel 21:7. Doeg told Saul that he had seen the son of Jesse come to Nob, to Ahimelech 1 Samuel 22:9. When the king ordered him to attack the priests, Doeg killed eighty-five men who wore the linen ephod 1 Samuel 22:18. David later said that Doeg would report the matter to Saul and accepted responsibility for the deaths in Abiathar’s father’s house 1 Samuel 22:22. Doeg is also named in the heading of Psalm 52:0.
