An Ezra king of Persia whose decree is associated with the completion of the house of God in Jerusalem.
Darius king of Persia is the Ezra king first named at Ezra 4:5, whose reign is named as the point up to which counselors frustrated counsel. The work of the house of God in Jerusalem had ceased until his second year (Ezra 4:24). Tattenai and his companions sent a letter to Darius (Ezra 5:6). Darius issued a decree for a search of documents (Ezra 6:1), and those addressed acted according to what he sent (Ezra 6:13). The house was finished in his sixth year (Ezra 6:15). He is named in at least 10 verses in Ezra.
