Azaz son of Shema is the man named in Bela’s lineage in 1 Chronicles 5:8, where the passage calls Bela “son of Azaz” and identifies Azaz as the son of Shema. The same verse identifies Shema as Joel’s son and says that Bela was dwelling in Aroer and as far as Nebo and Baal-meon. Azaz is named in at least one verse, all in 1 Chronicles.
