Psalms 1–2

Psalm 1:1-2:12
1Blessed is the man who has not walked in the counsel of the wicked, and has not stood in the way of sinners, and has not dwelt in the seat of mockers. 2For his pleasure is in the instruction of the LORD, and in his instruction he mutters by day and night. 3He shall be like a tree transplanted upon streams of water, that gives its fruit in its season, and whose leaf does not wither; and all that he does prospers. 4Not so the wicked; they are like chaff that the spirit drives away. 5Therefore the wicked shall not rise in justice, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. 6For the LORD knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked shall perish.
Chapter 2
1Why do the nations throng, and the peoples mutter vain things? 2The kings of the land take their stand, and the rulers take counsel together against the LORD and against his anointed. 3Let us tear apart their bonds and cast their cords away from us. 4He who sits in heaven laughs; the LORD mocks them. 5Then he will speak to them in his anger and terrify them in his burning wrath. 6I have installed my king upon Zion, my holy mountain. 7I will declare the decree of the LORD. He said to me, "You are my son; today I have begotten you." 8Ask of me, and I will give you the nations as your inheritance and the ends of the land as your possession. 9You shall break them with a rod of iron; like a potter's vessel you shall shatter them. 10Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O judges of the land. 11Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. 12Kiss the son, lest he be angry and you perish in the way, for his anger is quickly kindled. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.
