Joel

The Locust Plague Devastates the Land

1
Chapter 1
1 The word of the LORD that came to Joel, son of Pethuel. 2 Hear this, elders, and listen, all you inhabitants of the land. Has this happened in your days, or in the days of your fathers? 3 Recount it to your sons, and your sons to their sons, and their sons to the next generation. 4 What was left of the gazam the arbeh ate, and what was left of the arbeh the yeleq ate, and what was left of the yeleq the chasil ate. 5 Awake, drunkards, and weep and wail, all you drinkers of wine, over sweet wine, for it is cut off from your mouths. 6 For a nation has come up against my land, mighty and without number. Its fangs are the fangs of a lion, and it has the grinding teeth of a lioness. 7 He has laid my vine waste and made my fig tree a stump. He has stripped it bare, stripped it, and cast it away; he has made its branches white. 8 Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth. 9 Grain offering and libation are cut off from the house of the LORD; the priests who minister to the LORD mourn. 10 The field has been devastated; the ground has mourned because the grain has been devastated; the wine has dried up, the oil has languished. 11 Be ashamed, farmers; wail, vinedressers, over the wheat and over the barley, for the harvest of the field has perished. 12 The vine is ashamed and the fig tree has languished; the pomegranate also—palm and apple. All trees of the field have dried up, for joy has been disgraced from the sons of Adam.
