Leviticus

The Burnt Offering

Chapter 1
1 And the LORD called to Moses, and he spoke to him from the tent of meeting, saying: 2 Speak to the sons of Israel and say to them: If a man among you brings an offering to the LORD from the beasts—from the cattle or from the sheep or goats—you shall bring your offering. 3 If his offering is a burnt offering from the cattle, a perfect male, he shall bring it to the entrance of the tent of meeting. He shall bring it to make him acceptable before the LORD. 4 He shall lay his hand on the head of the burnt offering, and it shall be accepted for him to make atonement for him. 5 He shall slaughter the son of the cattle before the LORD. And Aaron's sons the priests shall present the blood and splash it on the altar all around, at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting. 6 He shall flay the burnt offering and cut it into its pieces. 7 And the sons of Aaron the priest shall put fire on the altar and arrange wood on the fire. 8 Aaron's sons the priests shall arrange the pieces, the head, and the fat on the wood that the fire is on the altar. 9 And he shall wash its entrails with water, and the priest shall make it smoke, all of it, on the altar—a burnt offering, a fire offering, a pleasing aroma to the LORD. 10 If his offering is from the flock—from the sheep or from the goats—as a burnt offering, he shall present a male without defect. 11 He shall slaughter it on the north side of the altar before the LORD, and Aaron's sons the priests shall splash its blood against the altar all around. 12 He shall cut it into its pieces—its head and its fat—and the priest shall arrange them on the wood that is on the fire on the altar. 13 He shall wash the offering and the legs with water, and the priest shall present all of it and burn it on the altar; it is a burnt offering, a food offering, an aroma pleasing to the LORD. 14 And if his offering is a burnt offering from the birds to the LORD, then he shall present his offering from the turtledoves or from the young doves. 15 And the priest shall bring it near to the altar, wring off its head, and turn it into smoke on the altar; and its blood shall be drained out on the side of the altar. 16 And he shall remove its crop with its feathers and throw it beside the altar on the east side, toward the place of the fat ash. 17 And he shall tear it open by its wings, without separating them; and the priest shall make it smoke on the altar, on the wood that is on the fire—a burnt offering; it is a fire offering, a soothing aroma to the LORD.
